Amar Singh, Jaya Prada join RLD

Last Updated 10 March 2014, 20:37 IST

Expelled Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders Amar Singh and Jaya Prada on Monday joined the Ajit Singh-led Rashtriya Lok Dal ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in April.

Singh is likely to contest from Fatehpur, while Jaya Prada may enter the electoral fray from Bijnore. For the last few months there was speculation that the two would join the Congress after they met party president Sonia Gandhi. However, it was reported that they decided to join the RLD after failing to get a positive response from the Congress.

Speaking to media, Amar Singh said he was not joining the RLD for electoral politics.

“Jaya Prada and I undertook a 1000-km-long padyatra in eastern Uttar Pradesh despite both my kidneys failing,” he said.
