CNC General Secretary N U Nachappa and the office-bearers in traditional Kodava attire brought new rice (dhanya lakshmi) home in a procession.

In the beginning after offering pooja to the family diety, the CNC office-bearers proceeded to field to cut the corn. The members also performed ‘Bolakat,’ ‘Ummathat,’ ‘Puthari Kolata’ and other dance on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, CNC General Secretary N U Nachappa said “CNC is observing Puthari festival for the last seven years. Such festivals are essential to introduce Kodava language and culture to the younger generation.”

Kodavas are green lovers and Puthari should be observed in day time, he added. On the model of Darjeeling, Ghoorkhaland, Kodavas should be considered as tribals.  Kodava land should be given security.  Kodavas should be representation in politics. Concession should be provided to Kodavas in Arms Act, Nachappa added.
