BJP candidate for Bangalore South Ananth Kumar on Monday hit out at his Congress opponent Nandan Nilekani stating that the latter’s  “18 days love for Bangalore” will not overshadow his (Ananth Kumar’s) work for the development of the State capital for the last 18 years.

The BJP leader’s rebuttal came days after Nilekani dubbed Ananth Kumar’s 18-year tenure as MP (five terms) as a failure and that people wanted a change. Kumar claimed that he was instrumental in getting the international airport for Bangalore and clearances for the fourth stage of Cauvery water to the City, besides several development projects. Nilekani’s sudden love for Bangalore will not be able to fool the electorate, he said.

Kumar also stated that voters were aware that they were participating in a national election and the priority were national issues including who should be the next prime minister. “This is not a municipality election. If the candidate (Nilekani) is not aware what election he is fighting then God only should help him,” Ananth Kumar said.

Kumar, who is also the member secretary of the BJP Central Election Committee, said the next meeting of the panel would be held in New Delhi on March 19 wherein the candidates for all seats in the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan and remaining seats in Uttar Pradesh will be decided.
