Engineering student drowns in lake

An engineering student drowned in a lake near Yelahanka on Monday afternoon.

The victim, Mohammad Suber, 21, a native of Kerala, was a resident of Bharathinagar. A student of HKBK Engineering College at Nagawara, he was staying with his friend at a flat, police said.

A group of seven students, including Suber, played holi and went to Hunasamaranahalli Lake around 3 pm to bathe. None of them knew swimming.

They entered the water and started swimming. Suber who went ahead of his friends, drowned, while his friends watched him helplessly, police added. His friends alerted police who rushed to the spot. The police with the help of a few local swimmers retrieved the body.
