A 22-year-old Delhi Police woman constable has been allegedly smothered by her fiance in a guest house in south-west Delhi’s Sagarpur. The accused was arrested in Gurgaon on Tuesday, police said.

Priyanka lived with her two sisters in Sagarpur and was posted with the traffic wing. She had checked in at Neelgagan Guest House at Nangal Raya with Mohit, a former Navy man, around 8.30 pm on Sunday.

According to the guest house staff, they posed as a married couple and Mohit’s voter ID card was presented as identity proof.

Around 11.30 pm, Mohit left the guest house claiming that he was going to get dinner.
“He did not return to the guest house,” said a police officer. Priyanka’s death came to light when the guest house staff knocked at the door for room service on Monday morning.

Failing to get any response, they informed police and forced open the door.
“When we reached the spot, Priyanka’s body was found lying on the bed. There were no visible injury marks on the body,” the officer added.

An initial police probe has revealed that Priyanka and Mohit’s marriage was fixed a few months. However, Priyanka and her family had second thoughts after Mohit lost his job a few days after the match was fixed.

Investigating officers have also found that Mohit had come to the Capital couple of days prior to the incident and had visited Priyanka’s rented house at Sagarpur.
He took Priyanka to the guest house, where he killed her and fled.

During investigation, police gathered CCTV footage from the guest house and nearby places, and mounted technical surveillance.

“In one footage, Mohit was seen boarding a bus. We managed to arrest him in Gurgaon on Tuesday,” the officer said.

Sources said Mohit has confessed to have killed Priyanka. “He was furious over Priyanka and her family’s decision to call off the wedding. At the guest house, the couple was involved in a heated argument during which Mohit smothered Priyanka,” a source said.

Incidentally, Mohit and Priyanka were the only guests at the guest house on Monday. The guest house staff claim that the word of the customer is taken as proof of marital status and further evidence is not required for stay.

Monday being Holi, few staff members were on duty and Mohit’s failure to return went unnoticed.
