Disabled tie knot

Marriage of Tajuddin of Kaladagi with Hussein Bi of Murugod in Belgaum district was witnessed by guests, majority of whom were also disabled. The couple chose to marry, on Thursday, though it was not auspicious as per the Hindu or Muslim calendar.

Tajuddin, exuding happiness, said that on this day his dream of marrying a physically-challenged girl materialised. Tajuddin runs a grocery shop and owns a small plot of land. He has 40 per cent disability, while Hussein Bi has 60 per cent disability.

The marriage was also an occasion to showcase communal harmony as all arrangements were made by a Hindu organisation - Shabarish Disabled and Rural Development Organisation. According to its President Ghanashyam Bhanda, the organisation had arranged 57 such marriages.
