Nominations gather pace in UP, 22 filed in a day

Nominations for the first and second phases of the Lok Sabha polls gathered momentum in Uttar Pradesh with several candidates from prominent parties filing their papers on Thursday.

As many as 22 nomination papers were field on Thursday for the first phase of polling on April 10 taking the total number of nominations filed so far to 38.

Prominent among those who filed their nomination papers included Imran Masood (Congress) from Saharanpur, Mohammed Shahid (BSP) from Meerut, Ghulam Mohammed (SP) from Baghpat and Zafar Alam (SP) from Aligarh.

According to the Election Commission so far six candidates have filed their papers for the second phase of polling in the state on April 17.

Prominent among those who filed their nomination papers for the second  phase included Naseer Ahmed Khan (SP) from Rampur and Ummed Singh (BSP) from Shahajahnpur.
