35 candidates file papers

Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani from Bangalore South, G M Siddesh and S S Mallikarjun from Davanagere, Goolihatti Shekar from Chitradurga and Muddah­­an­umegowda from Tumkur are among 35 candidates who filed their nomination papers for the Lok Sabha elections in the State on Friday.

Nilekani (Congress), accompanied by his family members, filed his nomination papers, to take on BJP candidate H N Ananth Kumar in Bangalore South.

Both sitting MP Siddesh (BJP) and former minister Mallikarjun (Congress) filed their nomination papers in Davanagere.

Former minister Goolihati Shekar (JD-S) filed his nomination in Chitradurga to take on sitting MP Janardhana Swamy (BJP) and Chandrappa (Congress).

In Udupi-Chikmagalur, Dhananjay Kumar, who recently joined the JD(S) from the KJP, filed nomination papers to take on sitting MP Jayaprakash Hegde (Congress) and Shobha Karandlaje (BJP). Prakash Rathod (Congress) filed the nomination papers in Bijapur.

In total, 85 candidates filed their nominations in the last three days.

Of the 28 parliamentary constituencies, Chamarajanagar constituency has not received any nominations so far, Anil Kumar Jha, Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka, told reporters on Friday.

In Mysore, sitting MP A H Vishwanath (Congress), B S Kumaraswamy from Tilak Nagar and Praveen M S from Doddamaragowdanahalli, Yelwal hobli in the taluk filed their papers as Independent.

Vishwanath is worth Rs 2.14 crore and is the richest among the five candidates who have filed their nomination papers till Friday.

His wife N Shanthamma has assets worth Rs 80.10lakh. Interestingly, the couple have declared themselves as agriculturists and neither of them owns any vehicles or has any liabilities.
