The petitioners Karnataka State Physically Handicapped Political Reservation Forum (KSPHPRF) had questioned the provision of Karnataka Municipalities Act dealing with reservations for elections but which does not refer to physically-challenged.
It also challenged the endorsement issued by Urban Development Department (UDD) dated 3 July, 2009 to the effect that there is no provision for reservation to contest elections in Corporation Act unless they belong to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or any backward classes.
The division bench comprising Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and Justice Anand Byra Reddy ordered notice to BBMP, state government and others.
