DYES, JSW face off today

KVC staged a stunning upset win over DYES at the Sree Kanteerava indoor stadium on an intense Saturday to add a dash of unpredictability ahead of the final day of the Karnataka Volley League (KVL).

KVC, who have been one of the easier opponents in the five-phase tournament, were expected to buckle under the pressure of playing DYES, who have won two phases until now.

Instead, KVC registered a 3-2 (25-20, 25-21, 16-25, 20-25, 18-16) victory to set up an enthralling title battle between DYES and JSW, who notched up a 3-1 (25-19, 25-20, 25-27, 25-19) win over BSNL earlier in the day.

Coming into Saturday, DYES led the table with 53 points while JSW were second with 52 points.

The latter’s win, however, pushed them up to 55 points and DYES – by virtue of having played out a five-set match – gained one point despite the loss to take their tally to 54 points but slid down to second.

With one point seperating the two, it comes down to the virtual final on Sunday (5.00 pm), and should DYES defeat JSW in a five-set match, the teams will be tied on 56 points apiece.

If the teams end the league on even keel (points and number of wins), officials will crown the champ based on set ratio or on point ratio.

Earlier in the day, Gurinder Singh, Jagdish, Deepesh Singh and Pramod impressed for JSW, while TD Ravikumar, Sathish and Manjunath played well for BSNL.

For DYES, Akhin, Ganesh and Shravan were the main protagonists while Ashoka, Sanoj, Ravindra and PC Satisha played well for KVC in their stunning win.

In the day’s final encounter, Postal notched up a comfortable 3-0 win over MEG.

A Kathik, Senthil and Yeshwanth helped Postal on their way to a fine victory while Bharath, Vinod and Dibin were unlucky to finish on the losing side.

Results: JSW bt BSNL 3-1 (25-19, 25-20, 25-27, 25-19); KVC bt DYES 3-2 (25-20, 25-21, 16-25, 20-25, 18-16); Postal bt MEG (25-21, 26-24, 25-19).
