District Congress Committee President B T Pradeep has called upon the elected representatives irrespective of political parties to unitedly submit objections to the state government to be submitted to the Central government against the recommendations of Kasturirangan Committee report on conservation of Western Ghats.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, he said “we will collect suggestions from Cheranda Nanda Subbaiah and Machimada Raja who have thoroughly studied the recommendations of Kasturirangan report and Madhav Gadgil report. The objections will be submitted to the State government after the Lok Sabha election.”

The district Congress is opposed to the report as it would affect the agriculture and livelihood of the people of the region. The issue has already been brought to the notice of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Union Minister Veerappa Moily. Both the leaders have promised to ensure that no harm is met at the people.

“As 127 villagers in Kerala were in the list of eco sensitive zone, the Kerala government could submit objections against to the recommendations. However, as more than 1,500 villages are included in the eco sensitive zone in Karnataka, we needed time to make a study.”

Congress candidate for Mysore-Kodagu constituency H Vishwanath will campaign in Madikeri constituency on March 28 and Virajpet on March 29. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, former CM S M Krishna are likely to campaign in the district during April 10 to 14.

District Congress Coordination Committee President P C Hasainar has said that there was no differences of opinion within the District Congress unit. “As a MP H Vishwanath has taken up development works in the last five years.”
