Automated teller machines (ATMs) will no longer be restricted to banks in Dakshina Kannada. The Mangalore postal division’s first ATM for postal savings account holders will be set up at head office in Pandeshwar shortly, said Mangalore division Senior Superintendent of Post Offices K A Devaraj.

Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of DK district-level philatelic exhibition — Mangalapex 2014, at Rosario hall on Wednesday, he said the structure for the ATM has already been set up and is likely to be opened within a month.

The State’s first ATM for postal savings account holders was set up at R T Nagar head post office.

“We are providing the ATM with ramp facility so that the ATM will be disabled friendly. There are over 10,000 savings scheme customers at the head office in Pandeshwar.

Customers need not wait in queues at post offices just to withdraw cash. The core banking solution will allow people to carry out transactions from any of the networked post offices across the State once the process of core banking facility is complete,” he said.

Devaraj said that the Mangalore division has two head post offices namely Pandeshwar and Kulshekar, 50 sub post offices and 99 branch offices. The head post offices at Pandeshwar and Kulshekar will shift to core banking solution in the month of April.

All the sub post offices and branches will migrate to core banking solution in a phased manner. DK Philatelic and Numismatic Association President M K Krishnayya said expo was organised within a short notice.
