9 held for robbery, murder

Businessman stabbed, stray bullet hits woman passerby

Nine members of a gang have been arrested for killing a 32-year-old woman in north east Delhi’s Khajoori Khas on Sunday and for robbing Rs 12 lakh from a trader in north Delhi’s Kotwali, police said.

The accused have been identified as Maqsood Ahmed, Farman, Rahees, Farman, Hashmeen, Arif, Yusuf, Naseem and Mohammad Shahjad. 

On Sunday, the gang had opened fire after robbing a businessman at Sadatpur market in Khajoori Khas, during which 32-year-old Kamna was shot at.

Kamna had succumbed to her injuries at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital on Monday. “She was travelling on a moped with her husband when a stray bullet hit her,” said a police officer. Kamna lived with husband Gopal, son Akash, 25, and daughters Ishu, 7, and Nishu, 3, in Dayalpur.

During the robbery, the businessman named Ramesh and his employee Yogesh were also injured. “Ramesh was stabbed for resisting the robbery, while Yogesh was shot at. They survived the attack,” the officer added. 

On Wednesday, Assistant Sub-Inspector Jasvinder Singh of Crime Branch had received information that four men involved in the incidents would come in a stolen vehicle at Khajoori Pusta Road to commit another loot in the capital.

Accordingly, a trap was laid which led to the arrest of Farman, Rahees, Arif and Yusuf. During search, a pistol of 7.65 mm bore and a cartridge were recovered.

“Arif told police that he along with Maqsood, Farman, Rahees, Farman, Yusuf, Shahjad and Waseem had committed a robbery at Karawal Nagar on Sunday and open fire while committing the robbery,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.

Their interrogation led to the arrest of Maqsood, Farman, Naseem, Shahjad and Hashmeen. Naseem had fled to Gwalior on Sunday to avoid arrest. 

Hashmeen revealed that he had provided information regarding carrying of large amount of cash on a daily basis by a Kotwali-based trader.

“The gang robbed the Rs 12 lakh cash from the trader near Old Iron Bridge. A case of attempt to murder-cum-dacoity case was filed with Kotwali police station,” Yadav added.A car recovered from the gang was stolen from Kamla Market in October 2013.
