<p> <br />OC chairman Suresh Kalmadi launched the programme and unveiled its logo at a ceremony attended by a host of officials, including Sports Secretary Sindhushree Khullar and India’s lone individual Olympic gold medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra.<br /><br />The volunteers, to be recruited from all over the country, will be imparted training in various functional aspects related to the hosting of the Games, scheduled October 3 to 14.<br /><br />Five categories of volunteers — senior citizens, professionals, home makers, differently abled and international — were registered during the programme.<br /><br />To facilitate easy registration of the volunteers, a special interactive web portal cwgdelhi2010.org/delhiunited was also launched by Kalmadi.<br /><br />Bindra narrated an anecdote from his experience during the Beijing Olympics last year to drive home how he can relate to the volunteers.<br /><br />“In Beijing the two volunteers assigned to the Indian contingent knew Hindi. When I won the gold medal they gave me a congratulatory message written in Hindi. It was a very special message and I have kept that congratulatory card by the side of my gold medal at home,” he said. CWG OC vice-chairman Randhir Singh, Chief Executive Jarnail Singh, Secretary General Lalit Bhanot and treasurer AK Mattoo were among those present on the occasion.</p>
