Want to know from where veteran Bollywood actress Vyjayanthimala used to buy chunris/dupattas from?

Well, then you don’t have to go quite far! Chunri Emporium in Shankar Market in Connaught Place is the destination.

This shop in the market has some of the exclusive dupattas in various fabrics – chiffon, cotton, kota, matka, chanderi, phulkari, bandhni, kantha etc, found in different hues of colours.

The shop no. 39 in the market, owned by Sanjeev Arora has all ethnic and authentic stuff.

“Other markets like Lajpat Nagar sell ‘duplicate’ materials. You will not find authentic material there. They copy designs too. Whereas, we only sell ‘real’ materials,” said Sanjeev.
"
And why not?

According to the owner even Vyjayanthimala once used to come to buy chunris.

“We have many high profile clients, from politicians to many boutique owners. And so we are not left with any option other than selling only pure and authentic materials,” said Sanjeev.

Specialist in selling chunris, they also have suit materials and palazzos and their own masterji.

The market opens at around 11 in the morning and  closes shop by 8.30 pm depending on the flowof customers.

Once used only with salwar-kameez, dupattas surely have come a long way.

They are hardly used as the typical dupatta. Even a girl wearing jeans flaunt ‘new-age’ dupattas, known as stoles.

Found in different prints, from fan to lipsticks, from buffalo to owl, dupattas have become an
essential part of a girl’s wardrobe.

Other markets selling chunris or dupattas are Central Market in Lajpat Nagar, which Sanjeev totally disapproves of, Sarojini Nagar market, Dilli Haat, Karol Bagh market, Rajouri
Garden market, etc.

One can buy dupattas in Masaba prints – fan, lipstick, buffalo from various shops in Central Markets.

Just team your kurta with a neon-coloured dupatta and you are set to go! Janpath also offers a whole range of chunris and dupattas for youngsters.
