Three people were injured when a gas cylinder exploded in a godown at Hagdur in Whitefield on Wednesday night.

Police said the godown, being used for filling gas, was unauthorised, and had around 50 cylinders at the time of explosion. Around 10.45 pm,  the cylinder exploded triggering a fire. Three persons working in the godown were injured and rushed to a hospital, and one of them is said to be critical.

Two fire tenders fought for more than an hour to bring the blaze under control. The entire godown was gutted and the asbestos sheet ceiling added fuel to the fire. The reason for the explosion is yet to be ascertained, police said. “The godown was used for filling small gas cylinders for households. We have to trace the owner and confirm whether it was an authorised godown. No complaint has been registered so far,” he added.

In another incident, a tyre shop was gutted near Thindlu under Kodigehalli police station limits.

Police said Ashok closed his Vinayaka Tyres shop at 7.30 pm as there was no power supply. At 10 pm, he was informed that his shop was on fire. Three fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the fire. The owner claimed tyres worth Rs 20 lakh were gutted. He is yet to lodge a plaint.
