Mobile networks go off for two hours

Last Updated 02 April 2014, 20:42 IST

It took two hours time for residents to realise what life would be without mobile phones as networks of all top service providers went off on Wednesday.

Between 12 noon and 2 pm people across City were unable to receive or make calls. Customers who spoke to Deccan Herald complained that they were unable to receive text messages and mails as servers went low. When Naveen (name changed), who subscribes to Airtel, called customer care, he was told the situation might prevail through the day.

“I was told it would be the case for about three hours as it was technical problem,” he added. Service providers, however, denied any problem. They claimed they received no complaints in that regard. BSNL Chief General Manager R K Mishra denied any technical snag. “There was no problems that were brought to our notice nor complaints received,” he said.

Private players considered it better option to remain tight lipped. A Vodafone spokesperson said: ‘There was no issue on Vodafone 2G network. There might have been some downtime on 3G which we are sharing with other operators.” While few were unable to make calls and send messages, in some cases, personal meetings were cancelled.

Rakshitha, resident of Rajajinagar, said her plans to meet friends did not work out due to the glitch. There were complaints about data connection. Airtel, BSNL and Vodafone customers said their servers went down for over hour’s time.
