JOIN USIn what could spell bad news for the BJP on the eve of the polls, the Election Commission (EC) is unlikely to act on the leading Opposition party’s demand to stop airing the Cobrapost sting news on the Babri Masjid demolition.
“The EC is treating the sting operation as a mere news item and it is not wise to take action on any body airing any such news,” sources in the panel told Deccan Herald.
“As the commission is more concerned about the violation of the model code of conduct either by parties or by candidates during the poll season, the sting operation is unlikely to attract any violations of poll code,” sources added.
Earlier, questioning the timing of the sting operation, the BJP had asked the EC to stop its publication and telecast. Writing to the EC, the BJP on Friday sought a bar on its contents being made public.
The party also asked it to take action “against whoever is behind such a mischievous conspiracy”.
