SC stays trial against Jaya

The Supreme Court on Monday stayed for three weeks the ongoing trial against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha in the disproportionate assets case by allowing the plea of the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP), who has to undergo medical treatment.

A bench presided over by Justice B S Chauhan allowed a plea made by SPP G Bhawani Singh seeking adjournment of the proceedings in the trial court on account of his illness for which he needed medical attention.The SPP approached the apex court against the order of the Karnataka High Court which had refused to allow his plea and dismissed his petition against the trial court.
