American diners may not be a common sight in the City but ‘Greasy Spoon, The American Diner’ located in Sector 1, HSR Layout, is doing its bit to introduce people to this concept.
The diner, opened by Apoorva Hegde and Melson Lewis, has a mix and match of different flavours. The menu is not only interesting but also has a lot to choose from.
The food served here is delicious and though the place has the ambience of an American diner, dishes with Mexican, Italian and Indian flavours are also available.
A range of burgers, pancakes, spaghettis and pastas are a part of the menu and Apoorva says that they have received a great response so far.
“We predominantly serve American diner style food like burgers, hot dogs, salads, pastas, steaks etc. We also serve an all day breakfast like the full English breakfast, pancakes, waffles, French toast, omelettes etc.
We will be adding more items to our menu shortly and items like chicken wings, Mangalore pork with sannas, Kerala beef roast, fish and chips and Sri Lankan prawn curry will be making their way into our menu very soon.
We will also be starting with weekend specials like shepherd’s pie, tiramisu, lasagna and pot roast,” she says.
Some of the most popular items on the menu are the all American burger, ‘jucy Lucy burger’, tex-mex nachos, Indian chicken burger, spaghetti meatballs, pasta bolognese, full English breakfast, pancakes, waffles, Nutella-stuffed French toast, Mexican omelette, burger dog, Russian beef stroganoff and cottage cheese parmigiana.
The restaurant is a reflection of what they are, say Melson and Apoorva. The interiors are simple yet fun as the two want people to visit the place for its food and not ambience.
“Our walls are filled with pictures of bands that we love. We play all kinds of music in the restaurant, right from classic rock, hard rock, soft rock, retro, R&B, jazz, blues to EDM. Our food is the main highlight here.
We are constantly trying to include all the items that we love to eat. From burgers to pastas to pancakes to even Mangalore pork, almost everything that we want to eat is on the menu. We run on one motto — ‘If we don’t like it, we won’t serve it’,” explains Melson.
To enhance the customer’s experience, the eatery also has a host of games. There is a foosball table and a number of board games that keep the customers occupied while waiting for food.
The place also held a burger eating competition recently and got a very good response. “We plan to have more eating competitions soon. We are in the process of making a ‘Wall of Fame’ for the winners of these competitions,” adds Melson.
