According to the Hulimavu police, Khatija, a native of Tamil Nadu, was married to Afzal, a painter, around two years ago and the couple have a one-year-old daughter.

On Thursday, the incident came to light when her mother-in-law Pyarima went to check on her at around 2.30 pm, police said.

‘Torture’

Afzal and Pyarima have been arrested based on the complaint lodged by Khatija’s parents that they were allegedly torturing their daughter for dowry, the police said.

Second case

In the other incident, Jyothi, 25, committed suicide at her residence in Gokul Layout, following alleged harassment for dowry.

According to KR Puram Police, Jyothi, a native of Davangere, was married to Nagaraju 18 months ago.

Jyothi’s mother-in-law Vimala, in a statement to the police, said that at around 11 am, Jyothi hanged herself in the room located on the terrace where she went on the pretext of drying washed clothes.
