Health varsity VCs' meeting on Apr 28

Last Updated 25 April 2014, 19:34 IST

The third edition of the Conclave of Vice Chancellors of Health Science Universities in the country will be held in Bangalore on April 28. VCs of as many as 13 health universities will meet to discuss a range of issues.

Issues such as integration of the university functioning, especially in evaluation and examination processes for greater transparency; steps to encourage research and innovation in universities; raising awareness about the need for accreditation of hospitals, laboratories and other health services; introducing short-term courses to inculcate values in doctors will be discussed.

“The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has been serving as a facilitator for training staff and officials of a number of universities/hospitals in the State, with focus on improving services to patients,” Dr T Rajeshwari, Consultant, Quality Assurance and Director, Accreditation, said here on Friday.

Marks card scam

The three students who benefited from a marks scam that rocked the RGUHS in January this year will have to reappear for their exams.

K S Sriprakash, Vice Chancellor, RGUHS, said: “The results of the three students have been annulled and withdrawn. They will have to reappear for the concerned exams. The decision was taken in the Syndicate meeting.”

The three students - Harshita C from Rajarajeshwari Medical College, Mysore Road, V Shibani and R Varsha from KIMS, did not pass their first year examinations taken in 2012.

The students applied for retotalling. However, there was no change in the marks. In 2013, when they got their marks cards, they were all declared passed. The role of N S Ashok Kumar, registrar (evaluations), RGUHS, was probed and he was ultimately sacked.

The private agency involved in the evaluation has also discontinued its services, said Sriprakash. “We have called for another tender and all the data is presently with us,” said Sriprakash.
