Guest lecturers threaten exam boycott

Last Updated 25 April 2014, 20:01 IST

The 10,000-strong guest lecturers in the State have threatened to boycott the degree semester exams of various universities set to begin in May, if the government does not honour the promises made to them.

The main demands of the lecturers are hike in salary and regularisation of their services. The salary presently is around Rs 8,000 and they have to apply afresh for postings every ten months.

After widespread protest, the government had agreed to fulfil the demands next year without any screening test. However, the lecturers have not received any notification on the same, according to Srinivas Acharaya N, president, Karnataka State Government Degree College Guest Lecturers’ Association.

“While the principal secretary of the education department has said that the letters for continuation of services will be dispatched in a day or two, the minister said the hike in salary will be only Rs 2,000 instead of Rs 5,000 that was promised earlier,” said Srinivas.
