COMEDK UGET scheduled for May 9

Meeting to discuss common CET will be held on December 11

This announcement comes despite both the state government and COMEDK talking about a common CET in 2010. In fact the government and COMEDK are scheduled to have a meeting to discuss the prospects of a common CET on December 11.

However, the Executive Secretary of COMEDK, Dr S Kumar said that the announcement was made after examining the dates of announcement of numerous All India Entrance Examinations. “It has nothing to do with the meeting that has been scheduled with the government. These dates have been decided after lengthy consideration,” Kumar said.

Meanwhile, Principal Secretary of Higher Education A S Srikanth who will be participating in the meeting said that he was not aware of COMEDK announcing the dates for its entrance test.

But Dr Kumar confirmed that the representatives will attend the meeting. “We will  participate in the talks and have an open mind,” he said.

However, sources on either side indicated that the possibility of a common CET was highly unlikely as neither was willing to step down from its demands. Sources said that COMEDK representatives were demanding that the functioning of the Karnataka Examination Authority be made transparent.

“It is wishful thinking to believe that there will indeed be a common CET. The dissonance between the two sides is not just restricted to representation and there are several problems including the terms of the MoU between the government and COMEDK,” one source said.

Incidentally, representatives of COMEDK including Dr Kumar have expressed their concern about the High Court striking down the MoU between the two camps.

Deccan Herald had reported last month that a ruling by the High Court had struck down the seat sharing agreement between COMEDK and the state government.
