Harish Salve's car involved in mishap, other driver injured

Last Updated 02 May 2014, 20:49 IST

Supreme Court lawyer and former Solicitor General Harish Salve’s car was involved in an accident at the Rajpath-Mansingh Road crossing on Friday morning, leaving the driver of the other vehicle seriously injured.

Joginder was admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. The lawyer and his driver escaped unhurt, Salve confirmed.

According to Salve, the other car, a WagonR, struck a road divider before hitting into the Bentley in which he was being driven from home at about 7.30 am.

Senior police officers said they would be able to say who was at fault only after investigations.

However, an FIR was registered against Joginder based on the complaint filed by Salve’s driver Arvind Pande.

“Arvind Pande has filed an FIR against Joginder, the driver of WagonR. Action will be taken after investigation and based on evidence,” said Mukesh Kumar Meena, Joint Commissioner of Police (New Delhi Region).

He said it was an unknown caller who informed police about the accident.

Joginder, 40, is said to be employed at Le Meridien hotel in Delhi. He was approaching the crossing from the Mansingh Road while Salve's car was on Rajpath.

Salve alleged that Joginder was driving at “high speed” and “not wearing a seat belt”.

Salve said he was going through a file when he felt the impact of the crash. Joginder’s vehicle hit a divider before crashing into the front wheel of his Bentley, and then spinning twice or thrice on the road.

“I am shaken up. Had the car hit the middle of my vehicle, I wouldn't be speaking to you on the phone right now,” he told Deccan Herald.

Salve said he would ask his driver not to pursue the case against Joginder.
