A meeting of the managements of sugar factories in Karnataka has been convened in Bangalore on Monday (May 5) to deliberate on the payment of the government-fixed price to sugarcane growers.

Sugar minister Prakash Hukkeri told reporters here on Saturday that he was hopeful of managements paying the sugar cane price determined by the government.

However, he added that Monday’s meeting would also discuss legal measures that would be taken against the managements not falling in line.

Food and Civil Supplies minister would also attend the meeting the proceedings of which would be reported to the chief minister.

Hukkeri said that a delegation from Karnataka will soon leave for Maharashtra seeking release of water from Koyna and Kalammawadi dams to meet the drinking water requirement in the parched Krishna basin.
