Whopping turnout in West Bengal

 The region of Junglemahal witnessed peaceful polling on Wednesday with an average of nearly 80 per cent voter turnout.

Polling was also held at Asansol in Burdwan district, where things were mostly peaceful barring isolated incidents of clashes and complaint of rigging and booth jamming against the ruling Trinamool Congress.

Polling percentage across the six constituencies till 6 pm stood at an average of 82.14 per cent. While polling was 89.25 per cent at Jhargram, 82.54 per cent at Purulia, 81.37 per cent at Bankura, 85.81 per cent at Medinipur and 87.21 per cent at Bishnupur.

 The poll percentage in Asansol was significantly lower at 77.21 per cent even though this is higher than the constituency’s 71.49 per cent in 2009. Polling in Junglemahal also showed an upward trend compared to 2009.

The fourth phase of polling in West Bengal across the six Lok Sabha constituencies — Jhargram, Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura, Bishnupur and Asansol — saw heavy polling with the average standing at around 82 per cent till 6 pm.
