Govt moots setting up of Electronic Mission

The new agency with direct links to the PMO may usher in a quick decision making process conducive to the growth of IT business. The task force — chaired by Ajai Chowdhry Chairman and CEO, HCL Infosystems — submitted its report to the Union IT minister A Raja on Friday.

The report envisions a $ 140 billion electronics and $ 105 billion software and services industry by 2014. According to the task force, the current level of demand in the Indian electronics industry stands at $ 45 billion and is projected to grow to $ 125 billion by 2014 and to $ 400 billion by 2020.

The level of exports is expected to increase from the current $ 4 billion to $ 15 billion by 2014 and to $80 billion by 2020.

On the IT/ITES Sector, it points out that the domestic market stands at $ 12.4 billion and is expected to grow to $ 23 billion by 2014 and to $ 50 billion by 2020.

The level of export in the IT/ITES sector expected to increase from the current $ 43.6 billion to $ 82 billion by 2014 and $ 175 billion by 2020. The national electronics mission would help in synchronised functioning of the industry through “effective coordination” across ministries and government departments in the centre and the states.
