Last Updated 23 May 2014, 20:26 IST

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has to stay in jail till June 6 as the Metropolitan Magistrate at Patiala House Court on Friday extended his judicial custody after he remained adamant on not furnishing a personal bond.

Kejriwal was arrested on Wednesday and sent to Tihar jail after he refused to furnish the bail bond in a defamation case filed by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari. A similar stand on Friday led to the magistrate sending him back to Tihar jail.

Kejriwal arrived to the court by about 9:30 am but had to wait for the magistrate. The courtroom where the hearing was to take place was packed to capacity with Kejriwal’s wife and several prominent AAP leaders in attendance.

The hearing was shifted to the video conference hall on the premises.
