Jashodaben, the wife of newly sworn-in Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been given round-the-clock police protection by the police in her locality.

Since Thursday, five policemen from the Mehsana police headquarters were deployed outside her house in the Brahmanwada village of Unjha town.

“Based on orders given to us by our superiors, we deployed one armed guard and four other unarmed policemen for the security of Jashodaben. They will remain stationed near her house 24x7 and travel with her,” Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mehsana Headquarters, said.

Jashodaben came into the limelight when Modi mentioned her as his wife in the affidavit filed with the Election Commission before the general elections. It was, however, revealed that Modi hardly lived with Jashodaben, since he left his house to join the RSS immediately after their marriage.

Since then, Jashodaben lived with her brother in the Brahmanwada. No police protection, however, was given to the prime minister’s mother Hiraba, who lives with her younger son Pankaj Modi in Gandhinagar.
