The charm of hospitality

Last Updated 13 June 2014, 13:19 IST

The country’s leading hospitality exhibition, ‘Food Hospitality World’, will be on in the City till June 14. Organised by Hannover Milano Fairs, the event will host almost 150 stalls and showcase a wide range of products.

The scope of hospitality industry is on the rise as consumers demand perfection. With evolving cuisines and services, the industry caters to all kinds of people and tastes.

The exhibitors are of the same opinion. “The food industry is growing rapidly. We not only go to metros but also to tier-one and two cities,” says Tom Joseph, vice-president of JSL Architecture Limited.

Kitch n Solutions, which supplies cooking equipment to fast food giants such as KFC and McDonalds, says that all their imported products are trickling down to the general market.

“This is a sign that people want quality,” says Sumit Jain, the manager of sales and operation. In this fast-moving day and age, time is of the essence.

“People want variety and hygiene but they don’t have the time to cook a proper meal,” says a representative of Baker Street. Suhana has a range of ready-to-make meals and spices.

In this edition, there is an emphasis on Italian cuisine because of the tie-up with the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IICCI).

The IICCI hosted the ‘Ospitalita Italiana Awards’ for the first time on the first day of the event. Ugo Ciarlatani, the consul general of Italy in Mumbai, says that despite the strict rules and regulations, he has inaugurated almost 20 Italian restaurants in the past year.

There is a large Indian population in Italy and people are learning what good Italian food is. “Life is too short to eat bad food,” he jokes. Of the seven nominees, two were awarded.

The criteria for the award were ambience, food, use of Protected Demographic Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Identity (PGI) products. The awardees were Mezzo Mezzo (Marriott, Mumbai) and Alto Vino (Marriott, Bangalore).  To attend the event, head over to KTPO, Whitefield.
