Synthetic tennis court ready in Hassan

 Hassan city is getting an international-level tennis court soon, following the launch of a hi-tech indoor stadium, volleyball court and hockey stadium, recently. The new court is ready for inauguration.

The synthetic lawn tennis court has been laid adjacent to M G Road, near the District Stadium at a cost of Rs 48 lakh, sponsored by Mysore Minerals Limited (MML).

Deputy Commissioner V Anbu Kumar was the Executive Director of MML, when the then DC Jagadish contacted him and appealed to provide funds for laying of the tennis court.

By the time the funds were released and the works began, Jagadish was transferred and Mohanraj was appointed as the DC. He also took special interest in the project and expedited the works.

Interestingly, Kumar, who was instrumental in sanctioning the funds is the incumbent DC and will take part in the inauguration programme.

The facility has two hi-tech synthetic courts. While the initial works were executed by Nirmiti Kendra, it was taken over by former cricketer Vijay Bhardwaj’s company.
 Now, the works have been completed and applications have been invited from tennis teams.

Hassan city has various sports clubs that encourage hockey, football and other sports. Now, the tennis court would motivate in forming tennis clubs.

Deputy Director for Youth Empowerment and Sports Shivanand said, the fee for using the facility will be decided after holding discussions with the DC. Though applications have been invited, a coach is yet to be appointed. Funds from the department will be utilised and floodlights would be installed in future, Shivanand added.

The district administration is making preparations to inaugurate the facility by the end of June.

 District in-charge Minister and Sports Minister will be invited to dedicate the court.
