TV has to be a good mix of everything

The right balance between saas-bahu sagas and thrillers like 24 would be ideal for television, feels actress Gauri Pradhan Tejwani, who is returning to the small screen with Balaji Telefilms’ TV series Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi.

“It’s great,” she said when asked about the new kind of shows like 24 doing well on the small screen.

“This is what we have been wanting for ages, but it has to be a good mix of everything. If you change everything overnight, that’s not going to work. So we need a balance of saas-bahu and a 24 series for the Indian audience so that they can enjoy both. TV is certainly growing,” Gauri told IANS.

Model-turned-actress, who is married to her Kutumb co-star Hiten Tejwani, took a sabbatical to raise her children. A mother of twins, Gauri will be seen as a practical mother in Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi, going on air June 23.

“I was bringing up my kids. I have twins and they are four years old now, so it’s the right time to work. Somehow it always works out with Balaji.

“Everyday people were coming with offers, I didn’t take any offer mainly because of the working hours. I can’t shoot from morning to evening because of the kids. This I worked out with Balaji. Ekta asked me to blindly say yes. Balaji is like a second home to me.”

A love story, Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi is set in a Gujarati family. Talking about her character in the serial, Gauri said: “I am playing the mother of the lead who is very practical. It's not a negative role, but she is very strong headed.”
