UPA appointees must quit: Naidu

Last Updated 20 June 2014, 19:44 IST

Union Minister for Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said that political appointees should resign voluntarily whenever there is a change of government.

“This is the most respectable way to do it,” he said at a press conference here while reacting to allegations levelled by the Congress on the National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre asking political appointees to resign. “Those who are elected or are selected on the basis of their competence is a different matter altogether, but for political appointees, leaving voluntarily is the most dignified way,” Naidu said.

The minister said the Congress, which is now levelling allegations against the BJP, should search its own conscience first.

On the investigation agencies request to question two governors in the AgustaWestland chopper deal, Naidu said, “There is no assault on anyone but if somebody has to be questioned they have to be questioned, whether governor or anybody else.”
