Budget to be presented on July 10

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is scheduled to present his maiden Union Budget before Parliament on July 10, three days after the beginning of the Budget Session.

The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, on Monday decided to recommend to President Pranab Mukherjee to summon the session from July 7 to August 14.

Contrary to popular perception, the Budget Session of Parliament will stretch over a month from July 7 to August 14, with the possibility of further extension, if required.

The Railway Budget is scheduled to be presented on July 8 followed by the Economic Survey on July 9. The session would have 28 sittings without any recess.

The Budget Session is also expected to consider bills to replace ordinances, including an amendment to the Telecom Regulatory Authority (Trai) Act and the one to facilitate transfer of villages falling under the submergence area of Polavaram irrigation project to the residual state of Andhra Pradesh.
