Amid resolute opposition by Kerala to the proposal to link two of its rivers with Tamil Nadu’s Vaipar, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has demanded on Friday that chief minister Jayalalitha, respond to the issue.

The DMK’s demand comes in the wake of a statement by Kerala water resources minister P J Joseph in the state Assembly that the National Water Development Agency’s proposal to interlink the rivers was not feasible.

Attacking Jayalalitha for taking credit on the issue of upholding the state’s rights on water disputes, DMK president M Karunanidhi said in a statement, “What would be Tamil Nadu’s response to this?”

Issuing a written reply to the opposition during a debate in Kerala Assembly earlier this week, Joseph said Kerala believes the project is not viable as the expert report (study report by IIT Delhi) showed no excess water in Pampa and Achenkovil to allow linking them with Vaipar.
