Prajusha, Renjith top in triple jump

Joseph, who has a season’s best of 49.59 seconds set at the Indian Grand Prix in Chennai in May, clocked 50.27 for the gold at the Sree Kanteerava stadium.
The 28-year-old Southern Railway athlete looked a bit weary after his silver-winning feat at the Asian Championships last month, but still was a cut above the rest. The previous record of 50. 81 too was set by Abraham at Pune last year.
Avin A Thomas, who has had good season so far, claimed silver in 51.56 seconds.
Shot putter Satyender Singh also etched his name in the record books. The North Western Railway athlete found a distance of 19.15 metres to rewrite the previous distance of 18.90 set by Shakti Singh in 1998.

Favourites Prajusha M A and Renjith Maheshwary had contrasting wins in the triple jump events on a day that saw all the prominent names recording victories in their respective events, barring Preeja Sreedharan in the 5000M.
South Western Railway’s Prajusha, who leapt to a distance of 12.96 for the gold, edged out Tessymol Joseph from Central Railway by three centimetres.  Renjith, however, had an easy time, jumping 15.88 metres to outwit Amarjeet Singh. But the Western Railway athlete was well below his personal best of 17.19.
Western Railway’s B G Nagraj became the fastest athlete of the meet when he won the men’s 100M in 10.70 seconds.  Sharda Narayan of Southern Railway took the women’s title in 11.81 seconds.
