Officials seize 33 sand transporting trucks, collect ` 2.17 lakh fine

A team led by Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim seized lorries illegally transporting sand outside the district and also overloaded lorries, at B C Road. A fine of Rs 2.17 lakh was collected from the defaulters.

A team led by DC and SP Dr Sharanappa visited B C Road to inspect the traffic problem in B C Road. Acting on a tip off that sand is being transported illegally, the duo along with other officials seized the lorries.

Out of 33 lorries, seven lorries did not have permits. Twenty seven lorries were overloaded with sand. Tahsildar Malleswamy weighed the lorries and verified the documents.

A few lorries were carrying 15 tonnes sand instead of 10 tonnes.

Sand extracted from Jeppinamogaru, Kavoor, Kuloor, Adyar, Kannur, Farangipet, Thumbay and Ullal was transported illegally to Bangalore, Mysore, Kushalnagar, K R Nagara, Sakleshpura, and Belur.

Regional Transport Officer Afzal Ahammed Khan, Mines and Geology officer Nagendra Kumar among others were present.
