People angry over rising prices, power situation in city: Congress

Last Updated 11 July 2014, 20:39 IST

Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government rising inflation, and power and water crisis, the city Congress on Friday staged protests at Britannia Chowk and Shakarpur on Friday.

The protests were part of ‘Halla Bol Andolan’ of the Congress party against the Union Budget and skyrocketing prices of basic essential commodities.

“Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had provided no provision to control price rise in the Budget. The people are also angry over the power and water crisis,” said Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Arvinder Singh Lovely.

Former Congress MP from south Delhi and accused in 1984 anti-Sikh riot case, Sajjan Kumar, former Delhi minister Haroon Yusuf and former MLA Anil Bhardwaj joined the protest.

“When the former Congress government allowed FDI in multi-brand retail, the BJP strictly opposed it. But now the Union minister has said they will allow FDI in defence and railways sector,”

DPCC chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma said the BJP MPs are hiding their faces to rescue them from people’s anger on power and water crises.

“People are desperately searching the BJP MPs and MLAs. They are hiding as they know they have to face the ire of the people who are suffering from power, water crisis and massive inflation,” Sharma said.

‘Govt inaction’

“The development works in Delhi which were going on at full speed during Congress’ rule have been halted due to government’s inaction,” he added.

The party will continue its protest against power and water crises and inflation on Saturday near Jama Masjid.
