Force used to disperse workers

Tempers flared between Congress and BJP workers in Chikmagalur taluk following an argument between the two groups. Some miscreants indulged in stone pelting prompting the police to resort to lathicharge. Three persons sustained injuries and local MLA C T Ravi’s car and a KSRP vehicle was damaged in the stone pelting. Police again had to resort to lathicharge in Halkedda (B) village in Bidar following a clash between BJP and Congress workers.

Several prominent voters of Bangalore urban local authorities, including External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, Rajya Sabha members Rama Jois, MAM Ramaswamy, M Rajashekaramurthy failed to exercise their franchise on polling day on Friday. In Bangalore rural Lok Sabha member H D Kumaraswamy did not turn up for voting. He was in New Delhi on the day.

MLC S Kailash, cast his vote in Bangalore, after he was bought in an ambulance to the polling station. Kailash is undergoing treatment at a private hospital for a kidney ailment. Sources close to the MLC said Kailash insisted that his vote should not go waste irrespective of the condition of his health. Congress MLC M V Rajashekaran had to go back without exercising his franchise as his name was not found in the voters’ list of Bangalore Urban local authorities constituency.

A resident of Jayanagar Rajashekaran arrived at the Bangalore urban ZP office to cast his vote. As soon as the polling officer gave him the ballot paper, the BJP election agent present pointed out that Rajashekaran name was not present in the voters’ list. The ballot paper was apologetically taken back from Rajashekaran.
