The farmers in the region first grew onion during the beginning of the year. After onion produce were lost due to excess rain and disease, the farmers cultivated chillies. The yield is outstanding this year but since the weather in the region is till cloudy the farmers have not been able to muster courage to pluck the chillies for drying. Hence they have left the chillies as it is on the plants. Due to the uncertain weather the farmers are not even in a position to enjoy the good yield.

“We have had many bad experience. This year though the yield is good, the weather is not allowing us to rejoice over it. We doubt if we will be able to encash the good yield,” says a farmer.

He said that he expects about 3 to 4 quintal dried chillies from his field and in one acre land farmers can easily get about 18 bags of chillies.

All in all with bumper crop in the field, the farmers are only hoping they can convert it into profits as well.
