<p>The State Congress is understood to have recommended to the party high command the names of N Y Gopalakrishna, Shantaveerappa Gowda and Ganesh Hukkeri as the candidates for the byelections to Bellary Rural, Shikaripura and Chikodi-Sadalga Assembly constituencies, respectively.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The high command will in all probability clear these names for the byelections scheduled to be held on August 21. Gopalakrishna is a former legislator from Molakalmuru in Chitradurga district. Many of the Congress leaders from Bellary district had demanded that the party should field a local leader in the bypoll.<br /><br />KPCC chief G Parameshwara and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had held a one-on-one meeting with the party leaders from Bellary on Wednesday and elicited their opinion. For Shikaripura, the party had shortlisted the names of Gowda and N Mahadevappa. But it had finally recommended Gowda’s name. August 2 is the last date for filing the nomination papers.<br /></p>
