Absconding sub-inspector to face action

Last Updated 31 July 2014, 20:49 IST

The City police are contemplating action against sub-inspector B Dhananjaya, who has gone underground following cases registered against him by the Delhi police for allegedly raping and cheating a model.

Since his transfer to the Cubbon Park traffic police station from the Indiranagar police station, Dhananjaya has not reported to work.

Stating that unauthorised absence is an offence and not informing senior officers a misconduct, Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration) Harishekaran P said.

“We will initiate action against Dhananjaya after receiving the report from the DCP concerned.”

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic & Security) B Dayananda said, “I will direct the DCP concerned to forward a report.”

Dhananjaya landed in trouble after a model, working as bartender in a pub on Mahatma Gandhi Road, filed a private complaint against him at a Delhi court, which directed the Malviya Nagar police in the national capital to register a case and investigate the matter.

The Malviya Nagar police registered cases under IPC Sections 420 and 376 and obtained an arrest warrant against Dhananjaya. Later, the team visited Bangalore, but returned empty-handed as he had gone into hiding.

While working with the Halasuru Gate police station, the sub-inspector met the victim. Claiming to be single and assuring to marry her, he had a physical relationship with her. On learning that he was married and had children, the victim began blackmailing him for money after he rejected pleas to marry her. He took her to Nandi Hills in mid-March, where, after a heated argument, the victim reportedly grabbed his walkie-talkie and service revolver and left for Delhi.

The SI followed her to Delhi to collect the walkie-talkie and service revolver. Left with no option, he reportedly married her at a temple, but refused to bring her back to Bangalore or stay with her. It was then that she decided to move the Delhi High Court.
