An engineer and a contractor employed with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation were arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a 28-year-old married woman on the pretext of helping her bag a job.

The victim has alleged that she was taken to a tourist resort in Sonepat in Haryana earlier this month where they took turns to rape her.

The woman approached police on Saturday and filed a case with Prashant Vihar police station in outer Delhi. The duo was first detained for questioning and later arrested.

The 52-year-old contractor and 52-year-old engineer had initially promised the woman a job in DMRC. A few days before the alleged incident, the duo told her that she would have to meet some higher officials of DMRC for a permanent job.

On August 2, the contractor called the woman to a restaurant in Prashant Vihar area where he was accompanied by the DMRC engineer who is currently posted in Jantar Mantar area of New Delhi.

“The woman alleged that the two had a brief chat with her in the restaurant after which they told her to accompany them to a tourist resort in Sonepat to meet the higher officials. She did not suspect them and readily accompanied them to the place,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.

On reaching Sonepat, the accused allegedly booked a room at the resort and took turns to rape her.

“The woman has complained that the duo brought her back to Delhi and threatened her not to report the matter to anyone. She claimed she was initially hesitant to report the matter but approached police after gathering courage,” said the officer.

The woman who lives with her husband and in-laws in east Delhi’s Shakarpur, was sent for a medical examination.
