Maid's spouse found dead at Kumari Selja's residence

Last Updated 11 August 2014, 19:37 IST

The husband of a maid working at former Union minister Kumari Selja’s residence in New Delhi was found dead with severe injuries outside the servant’s quarters early on Monday.

The 42-year-old man’s family said he was murdered in the room before being thrown off the building.

A senior police officer said they have so far detained about a dozen people for questioning.  However, no arrests have been made and the cause of the death is yet to be ascertained.

The victim’s family has accused two cooks of the Congress leader as well as her secretary, Jose, of plotting his wife’s ouster from work as well as withdrawing accommodation. The victim’s sister-in-law Veena said that the “murder” was a result of the ongoing attempts to remove her.

Sanjay Kumar, the victim, worked as a supervisor at Vayu Sena Bhawan in Delhi and lived with his wife and two children at the servant’s quarters in Selja’s residence at central Delhi’s Sunehri Bagh. His wife Manju was employed there as a cleaner for the last eight months.

The family had been away on Sunday to a relative’s home in Laxmibai Nagar to celebrate Raksha Bandhan.

While his family stayed there for the night, Kumar returned to the quarters around 9.30 pm on Sunday, allegedly after being called by Jose to discuss something.
