Railways staff to be trained in local languages

Last Updated 17 August 2014, 20:21 IST

Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said on Sunday that railway employees were being trained in local languages, so that they can converse easily with customers.

Employees belonging to other states in Mangalore are already being taught Kannada and Tulu, the minister said. He was speaking to reporters at the BJP office in the city.

Gowda said talks were being held with Japan with regard to starting a bullet train service on the Chennai-Bangalore-Mysore route.

The minister said that three committees had been formed to suggest ways to bring down unproductive expenditure in the Railways and to make the organisation financially strong.

He said that railway officials would henceforth be barred from using special trains or bogies for their conveyance.

He said the complaint about officials travelling on a special train on the Bangalore-Hubli route recently would be looked into.
