Father shoots girl dead for marrying youth she loved

Last Updated 18 August 2014, 20:25 IST

A 22-year-old  undergraduate student had apprehensions that her life could be in danger after she married her lover and approached court seeking security.

Instead, Ranjana (name changed) received bullets. She was allegedly shot dead by her own father who was not happy with her decision to marry her lover. The father has been arrested.

Reports said Ranjana, a second-year undergraduate student at a college in Sambhal district, had an affair with Anil Jatav, who studied at the same college.

The two married in court a few days back. Immediately after the marriage, Ranjana moved an application before the court seeking security, the reports said.

Ranjana’s father Ramchandra Jatav had no inkling that she had married in the court. He was furious when he received a court’s notice on Ranjana’s application apprehending danger to her life from him and seeking security, the reports said.

An angry Ramchandra allegedly shot at Ranjana on Sunday when she was sitting in her room. Ranjana was hit twice in her head and died on the spot, police sources said.

The father made no attempt to flee, police said.

“Ramchandra was found sitting outside the room where Ranjana’s body lay. The murder weapon was also found nearby,” said a police official.

Ramchandra had no regrets over killing his daughter.

“She had brought bad name to the family. She was punished for that,” he told the cops.
