CBSE to issue show-cause notice to Scindia School

Last Updated 28 August 2014, 19:07 IST

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will serve a show-cause notice on the Scindia School in Gwalior, on why its affiliation should not be withdrawn in the wake of a student, the son of a Bihar minister, attempting suicide after he was ragged by his seniors on campus.

The board took this decision after a fact-finding team it constituted visited the school and confirmed that Adarsh Singh, son of Bihar Cooperatives Minister Jai Kumar Singh, was ragged by his seniors and subsequently tried to commit suicide. “The board will issue a show-cause notice to the school under affiliation by-laws,” sources said.

Taking suo motu cognisance of the incident, the CBSE on August 23 constituted a fact-finding team, which conducted an inquiry the following day by meeting school students, teachers and parents.

The Human Resources Development Ministry on Thursday asked the CBSE to submit a detailed report on the incident, amid raging protests by parents in Gwalior after the incident came to light. The police have already registered an FIR against three students and two staffers in the school.
