No shortage of fertilisers: Agri dept

The Agriculture department has dismissed the charges levelled by JD (S) leader Y S V Datta that it not have enough stock of urea in the Karnataka State Co-operative Federation.

In a written statement, Director for Agriculture, B K Dharmaraju, has said that the department had dispatched close to 6.75 lakh tonnes of urea to the farmers, against the demanded 6.04 lakh tonnes. The disbursement of the fertiliser was completed by August 20.

Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers H N Ananth Kumar on Thursday said there was no shortage of fertilisers in the State. He said that one lakh tonnes of fertilizer, of the State’s total requirement of 1.85 lakh tonnes, had already been dispatched.
