Inspired by the West, food trucks are becoming popular in the City. ‘Gypsy Kitchen’, a food cart, owned by Shakti Subbarao is quite popular in HSR Layout.

“We’ve been working on ‘Gypsy Kitchen’ since the end of last year but it opened this June,” says Shakti. He adds that he and his wife decided to venture into a food truck as the real estate prices were high. “We got inspired by the ‘Eat Street’ show on Fox Traveller and that’s how the truck came into being,” he says.

The food truck offers varieties in burgers, sandwiches and hot dogs in non-vegetarian and vegetarian options. “We have different sauces to suit everyone’s taste. There is the barbeque, tangy and spicy sauces,” he says. Shakti says that the food truck is venturing into specials like the ‘Gypsy Special Sandwich’ and the ‘Ultimeat Sandwich’. “We also have a ‘Hawaian Sandwich’, which is served with salami, shredded chicken, bacon or sausages with pineapple and a mix of spicy sauces, mayonnaise, cheese to make it worthy of every bit that one bites into,” says Shakti.

He says that the most sought after items include the ‘Hawaian’ and the ‘Ultimeat’ sandwiches and the ‘Spicy Chicken Burger’. “Everything has been selling well. There are different types of people who frequent us for different things.  From youngsters to elderly folks , everyone loves the specials we dish out,” he says. Shakti is assisted by his wife Norma, who helps prepare the meat for the quick bites. “We usually move around in HSR Layout and we have been to Koramangala in the past. We are planning to go to Kammanahalli and Indiranagar since we have had many requests,” he sums up. For details, call 9019548565.
